Description: LaAmistad is a partnership between Lake Forest Elementary School (LFES), LaAmistad ‘s award-winning after school program, The Goizueta Foundation, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the goal of helping Latino children attending LFES succeed in education and ultimately enhance their opportunity for a better life. Education is a proven way to break the cycle of poverty.

Approximately 84% of LFES’s 930 students fail to perform at-grade level in part because many parents do not speak English and/or are illiterate, and unable to help with homework.

LaAmistad’s tutorial program has proven to be highly effective. In 2014/15, 300 students in LaAmistad’s after school programs achieved an aggregate 91 GPA.

Volunteers are needed to work 90 minutes (3:30 – 5:00pm) one day a week, or as you are able to come, to help children with their homework.

We are “Called to Discipleship” and challenged to put our “Faith into Action. These are our neighbors; many are members of Centro Católico del Espíritu Santo, our Mission. Consider helping Latino children improve their chance for a better life.

Please note that for the safety and protection of the vulnerable populations that may be served by this ministry, all volunteers participating in this ministry must be in compliance with the requirements of the Archdiocese of Atlanta's Safe Environment Program.
