Keeping A Holy Lent: Fasting and Abstinence Obligations

The following Abstinence / Fasting regulations are observed during Lent. They are grave obligations, binding under pain of sin. So they may not be casually ignored, and doing so is a serious sin. Abstinence from meat on Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday (March 30) by all Catholics 15 years of age and older. Fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (March 30) by all Catholics who are 18 to 59 years of age. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal and two smaller meals which, together, would not to equal a full meal. Fasting is not an obligation for those with a medical condition which would be made worse by fasting.
