On Sunday, October 20, join Dr. Andrew McGovern at 10:00 AM in McDonough Hall as he helps us rediscover the power and beauty of devotion to Jesus’ mother. We will review the history of the Rosary and consider practical aspects of piety.

It’s helpful to remember that the Rosary is “a compendium of the Gospels,” as Pope St. John Paul II called it. It’s a devotion with very deep tradition in the Church, adopting the pattern of organized recitation of the psalms by medieval monks and turned into a hymn to Our Lady, with Our Lord and His life at the very center of the prayers and themes. “To recite the Rosary is in fact to contemplate with Mary the face of Christ,” in Pope St. John Paul II’s words. The Rosary’s power is well-recognized. And whenever we pray it, it’s inspiring to know that fellow Catholics around the world are also doing so.

Did you know that the first half of the Hail Mary comes from the Gospel of St. Luke, and the second half is the Church’s recognition of Mary’s greatness and our plea for assistance for all of us?
