Should literary art provide moral guidance to its audiences? In George Eliot’s (1819-1880) In Which the Story Pauses a Little, she explains the realism of her characters – flaws and all. Oscar Wilde’s (1854-1900) dialogue The Decay of Lying rejects the value of art for human life – arguing that art should be independent of the real world. Join us to discuss these conflicting views of art.

The Great Books Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, October 10, at 7:00 PM in Malta Hall. Subsequent meetings will be held monthly with selections from the Great Books Foundation series. Contact Patrick Carey at 770-241-2511 for further information.

Ministry Description
The goal of this lively discussion group is to engage the intellect and imagination through shared inquiry about provocative literature. The Great Books Foundation in Chicago compiles the selections. Challenge and broaden your thinking as the group probes deeply into characters and ideas. Members are required to read the selections prior to the meetings and come prepared to answer interpretive questions. The Great Books Discussion Group meets from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month between September and May.
