In remarks to the College of Cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI quoted the late theologian Romano Guardini (1885–1968): “The Church is not an institution devised and built by men, but a living reality.” This was Benedict’s final citation of a theologian he often referenced in his homilies, encyclicals, and books.

Guardini’s The End of the Modern World, first presented as lectures in the late 1940s, compares ancient, medieval, and modern cultures, concluding that the modern age has reached its end. Join us for an in-depth discussion of this influential work and one of the twentieth century’s leading theologians.

The Great Books Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, February 12, at 7:00 PM in Side B of McDonough Hall. For more information, please contact Patrick Carey at 770-241-2511.
